How I Gave Beth Faux Bangs // Hair Tutorial

Some of you said you'd like to see a tutorial on how I gave Beth faux bangs in the last post. So here we go! If you'd like to see the YouTube video which I got this idea from, click this link.

For this hairstyle, you will need some bobby pins, two elastics, and a headband. I used my own headband and tied a knot in it to make it fit around Beth's head. This hairstyle will probably work better on a doll with wavy or curly hair, because then the bangs will have contour, but I have not tried it on a straight haired doll yet.

First, put your dolls hair in a high ponytail.

Separate hair from the top of the ponytail and flip it forward. This hair will become the bangs. It's okay if it's a bit long right now.

The hardest part is to arrange the hair on the forehead to create the bangs. Pull the hair to make it longer and shape it around the doll's face. Pin it carefully in place with bobby pins.

Slip the headband on to cover the bobby pins.

Smooth the extra hair and put a elastic around it at the base of the ponytail.

Twist the pony into a bun and pin in place.

Ta da! Now your doll has a completely new and different look!

Beth Tries Faux Bangs

I recently saw a YouTube tutorial on how to do faux bangs. I thought it would be fun to try on a doll, but didn't know if it would work. So, I grabbed a doll and gave it a go!

The tutorial I watched required flat ironing the bangs to curve them in the right direction. I can see how this would be needed on straight hair. However, Beth already has wavy hair so her hair curved naturally!

I found this half finished friendship bracelet among my embroidery floss and discovered it was the perfect length for a doll bracelet!

I twisted the rest of her hair up into a bun.

It was fun to try out the hairstyle to see what Beth would look like with bangs. I think I personally prefer her without bangs, but that just might be because that is what I'm used to!

What do you think? Do you like how Beth looks with bangs or without bangs better?

Would you like me to do a tutorial on how to do these faux bangs on a doll?

Brooke and Her Hair

I love doing my doll's hair, so when Brooke had her hair in a messy pony tail I knew it was time to get creative. :D

Straight out of the ponytail. Beautiful XD

Sprayed and brushed... That's better :)

I braided her hair. The braid is like a french braid, but I only took hair from one side. See below....

Curling Maggie's Hair

This week I decided to re-curl Maggie's hair! I've had her for a year and a half, and noticed lately that her curls aren't as tight as they used to be. When I found these curlers, I knew the time had come to fix Maggie's curls!

I used this 10 pack of foam rollers. Ten was a great number; I didn't see a reason to have more than ten.

I took Maggie's hair out, then sprayed it with water, and brushed it.

I rolled up the curler with the way her hair naturally curls.

I continued all around her head.

I left the curlers in for about 2 hours before carefully removing them.

Ta da!

Her curls are much tighter now! :)

For comparison, in the photo below, her curls are much more relaxed.

Star Wars Rey Hairstyle

Last week I was able to see the new Stars Wars movie. Multiple times during the movie I thought 'I should do Rey's hairstyle on my doll!'.

I could have done the style on Beth, who has the long dark hair of AG #55, but I did it on Maggie instead. Maggie likes Star Wars and her hair is less thick, I think. This style could probably be done on be done on any doll that has straight or curly hair that is not layered. This hairstyle probably wouldn't have worked well on Brooke, for example. It works on dolls with parts, but ideally it would be done on a parting wig like McKenna's.

So here it is!

To do this style you will need four small rubber bands and a brush. The water is optional, but I did use it.

Start with your doll's hair down.

Take a section from the front.

Take it straight back with a rubber band.

It should look somewhat like this.

Now, take a small wisp of hair from either side just above the ear.

Now do a normal half back. Make sure to only take as much hair as you absolutely need. The rest will be needed to do the other buns.

Side view.

Twist the rubber band and put the pony tail through again, but stop pulling when the loop is the desired size.

Take another section of hair, just below the last one. Include in the second ponytail the leftover hair from the first ponytail.

Repeat for the final bun. Use bobby pins to secure flyaways if needed.
