What a Glorious Feeling // Photo Shoot with Brooke

While I was taking pictures to list the AG items featured in this post, I just had to put Molly's raincoat and hat on Brooke for a photoshoot. It was a bit drippy out, so I grabbed some rain boots and an umbrella to go with the ensemble.

The boots are from Our Generation, and I had to slit the back to get them on. The white lacey umbrella is actually from Disneyworld, at one of the stations where some ladies were decorating umbrellas. A plain umbrella was very reasonable, and it was perfectly doll-sized, so I couldn't pass it up!

Favorite photo from this shoot? Mine have to be the first or the fourth to last :)

ALSO! I'm so honored to win the Paisley Award for Best Doll Photography! Thank you all so much!

What Does My Brother Know About AG

I've been seeing a lot of bloggers use their siblings in posts lately. After Loren did a post with her brother about AG inspired by Samantha's post (go read their posts!), I thought I should do a post with my brother! My brother has a blog here where he posts about art and drawing. We shall call my brother "Ron".

When did I get my first doll?

R: Um. 2013.

Me: I think it was 2010.

R: Oh your first American Girl Doll?!
Me: Yeah!
R: Well you got the Bitty Babies before an American Girl Doll. So I would say 2010. *laughs*

Me: Okay.

How long have I been blogging?

R: 20 years.

Me: C’mon.
R: 3 years.
Me: Yeah my 4th anniversary is in April.
R: Don’t you think you should do five years?
Me: Well I’ll try *laughs*.

What are some names of other doll bloggers?

R: PixieFaire. And... I don’t know. Is Pixie faire one?
Me: No.
R: That’s a shop, isn’t it.
Me: Yeah.

How many times have I been to the AG store?

Me: This should be pretty easy.
R: Twice.
Me: Yeah.

What doll is top on my wish list right now?

R: Becky Lou. I don’t know. Is it Z?
Me: No. But that’s close.
R: The Hawaiian one?
Me: No but she’s really cute. I’ll give you a clue. American Girl doesn’t sell her.
R: So it’s like a bootlegged brand.
Me: *laughs* You can say like the genre. Not a specific doll.
R: She is a custom doll.
Me: Yes!

Of my dolls, which is my favorite?

R: The red haired one. Maryellen. No no not her. The dark brown hair one.
Me: Which one?
R: The one with the long hair that you braid all the time.
Me: Beth?
R: Sure.
Me: No, actually. I think Maggie and Phoebe are my favorite.
R: What?! They can’t both be your favorites!!
Me: *laughs*

What's the name of the first GOTY?

R: Maryellen! No I’m just kidding. Kit.
Me: She’s historical!
R: Oh what’s the difference.
Me: The girl’s of the year only come for one year.
R: *singing*
Me: Do you know the answer?
R: I don’t! Why would I? I just love my cat. He’s really cute.
Me: Uhhh. It’s Lindsay.
R: Oh of course. Lindsay.

What is the name of GOTY 2018?

R: Is it the Hawaiian girl?
Me: No. Do you know?
R: No.
Me: It’s Luciana Vega.

Which GOTY doll do you like the best?

R: *looks at image of all the GOTYS* *points to Saige* There’s not very many GOTYs.
Me: Well there’s only one per year.
R: Makes sense.
*mom comes in*
My mom: What are you doing? Are you having fun?
R: No.
Me: *laughs*

All About Cadence

Let's talk about my newest doll, Cadence! First of all, she is a rewigged Ivy doll. I got her used for a great deal, and she is in excellent condition. She only has a few marks on her. I didn't even need to tighten her limbs when she arrived.

I'm glad that I waited to find the right doll for this custom. I was thinking about getting a 64 or Z to customize (I prefer the painted eye notches), but when I went to the American Girl store on January 2nd, 64 was out of stock and Z had permapanties. I'm happy that I customized Ivy instead, because I've wanted a doll with decal brown eyes.

Her full name is Cadence Aimi (Aimi means beautiful/love in Japanese). I just decided on her second name the day I customized her, but the name Cadence has been on my list. And, no, the name Cadence is not found in any Louisa May Alcott book that I know of, but that's why I used Aimi as her middle name. It's not pronounced exactly the same as Amy, rather it's pronounced 'I-me'. Her nickname is Cady.

Cadence was born in Japan. Her family moved to America when she was two. At the age of three, her family realized she was Deaf. Her parents began teaching her ASL, but they died when she was 4.  She then lived with her grandparents, and they put her in signing classes and speech therapy. She participated in her local Deaf community, but she was mainstreamed in a hearing school, and didn't have many friends. The main reason she does not have cochlear implants is because her parents and grandparents were never able to afford them. As a result, she's never considered getting them.

She was originally going to be 12, but when I put her with my other dolls I realized something quite unusual. She's so much taller than my dolls! As a result, I changed my mind and she is 14. I measured her and she is about 18 inches tall. I thought this was interesting, so I measured Phoebe. She measured up to be only about 16.5 inches tall!

I got her wig for Christmas, and it is from Exquisite Doll Designs. It's seems to be of excellent quality and is very soft. Unlike Phoebe's wig, which has some dark brown hair mixed in, this wig is all black. She's my first doll with short hair. Her hair can't really be styled because it is so short, but headbands and bows will look cute in it.

Once I realized that I could make hearing aids for Cadence, I decided against getting hearing aids from American Girl. I don't think they look very realistic, and I didn't really want holes drilled behind her ears. So, I used the tutorial from MyAGDollCraft. I mixed skin-tone polymer clay and used a paperclip to fit the hearing aid to her ear. I pulled the wig right up next to it, and both of the hearing aids stay on great. Should Cadence do a post about her hearing aids?

She is also my first doll with pierced ears. I didn't necessarily want Cadence to have pierced ears, but I couldn't really find any Ivy dolls that didn't have pierced ears. Do you know if all Ivy dolls came that way? Still, it's no big deal, and she came with a pair of studs so I'm excited to make earrings for her. (Not that they will be seen, since her hair covers it up..... anyway)

I'm considering trimming her hair in the front so that it shows both her eyes when not pulled back. If she doesn't have a pin pulling it back, it's very long and uncooperative over her face.

She's so adorable! I love her pink cheeks, which I notice a lot more on her than any of my other dolls.

I've added her to the "My Dolls" page. Now I need to work on adding her to the header!
I hope you liked learning more about my new custom doll! Do you have any questions about her?

PS There's only three more days to vote in the Paisley Awards! Have you voted yet?

Her Arrival // A Photo Story

Good day! I mentioned in this post that I had an idea for a new doll. So, you shouldn't be too surprised to find that..... After much searching and decisions, I got a new doll! She's been in the works for about a month, but I've had her personality formed for a while now. I put together a little photo story so you can get acquainted with her.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I had two overwhelming emotions. The first was exhaustion. I hoped the girls at the house had a bed set up for me, or even a sofa or sleeping bag. Plane rides weren’t my favorite, and my last one had been very long. I smoothed the nice dress I had put on before I left the airport.

I let go of the suitcase and knocked on the apartment door. My stomach churned. My second overwhelming emotion was nervousness. My grandparents had sent me to live with my cousin and her new family. They thought it would be best for me. You see, I didn’t have many friends from where I came from.

The door opened and a girl appeared.

“Hello!” She said. “We’re so glad you’re here. I’m Maggie!”

“Nice to meet you. I’ve heard so much about you.” I waited to see her response to my voice.

She didn’t seem phased. Maybe my cousin had told her. Not that I didn’t want her to tell, but I was just curious.

Maggie turned around to let me in, and she led me down the hallway She was talking, but her face was turned away, and I only caught a few words. I followed her, lugging my bags.

She turned back toward me, “-not set up yet, I hope you don’t mind. You can stay in a sleeping bag in the living room until it’s -” Then she turned again.

My thought that my cousin had told her must not be correct. She clearly didn’t know. I thought I should tell her. I shook my head not yet.

“Oh, would you rather have my bed for a week or two?”

She must have thought I was shaking my head in answer to sleeping on the floor.

“I’m sorry, I misunderstood. The sleeping bag’s fine.”
“Alright, if you’re sure.” She changed the subject, “Phoebe is really excited to see you.”
“I’m excited to see her too.” We continued along the hallway to the kitchen.

Phoebe jumped out around the corner and rushed toward me with a hug.

“Cadence! I’m so glad you’re finally here. I’m sorry that Jiji and Baba sent you away from them, but we can be together now again.” We called our grandpa Jiji and our grandma Baba, since our family was Japanese.

“Me too.” I smiled. Phoebe was always so nice to me and a great friend. In fact, she was one of my only friends.

“So you met Maggie. The rest are on their way down.”

Maggie looked toward the hall, “I’ll go check on them.”

“Did you tell them?”
“Tell them what?”
“About me?”

“Oh, no. I thought you would want to,” Phoebe said.
I didn’t say anything.

“You can, don’t worry. It won’t make a difference to them.”
I sighed, “I’m not ashamed.”
“Then tell them. Here they come now, let's go to the living room."

I followed her to the nice living room and thought about what she said. I knew it was the right thing to do. I’d been through it before.

There stood the rest of the girls.
Phoebe announced, "Everyone, meet my cousin, Cadence!"

"Hi, everyone." I smiled.

All the girls introduced themselves to me. They all seemed very nice.

It was suggested that we sit down and talk about my trip.

When I had finished, Beth spoke up, "Now tell us some things about you!"

"Well, I love drawing and water colors. I like to sell my work, too. I even helped buy my plane ticket here, and this new dress. I also love movies, especially Disney." I began.

"We love Disney too!" Teddie chipped in.
"Something else that's part of who I am..." I began slowly. I glanced at Phoebe. She nodded. I pulled back a piece of my hair.

"...is that I'm Deaf." I stopped for a second. "I wearing hearing aids, which help me hear a few things better. That's why my voice sounds a little different. I've had a lot of speech therapy and can sometimes read lips."

"I usually use American Sign Language, at least that's what my parents had taught me. Jiji and Baba don't know sign language though."

"Sign language sounds really cool!" Brooke exclaimed.

Her enthusiasm encouraged me. I continued to briefly introduce them to Deaf culture. They all seemed really happy to get to know me.

In fact, the girls were so happy for me to join their family, the insisted on doing a new family photo right then! My feelings of nervousness are gone, because I know that these girls will accept me.

Yay! I'm so excited to have this new girl! And yes, she really is that tall. I have no idea why. Thoughts?

Her backstory so far is that she lived with her grandparents, because she is an orphan, but her grandparents really wanted her to have a friends since she was having trouble making friends. So, they sent her to live with Phoebe and the other girls. She and Phoebe have written letters for a long time.

More pictures of this girl and details to come!

Also, blogging is going really well! I have posts scheduled out as far as February 7th!??

Reindeer Pajamas + Announcements

Before the pictures, I wanted to make a few announcements!

First, this is my 300th post on this blog!! That's a lot of posts, I can't believe I've done that many. If you all the posts on my blog, and spent a minute on each, it would take you 5 hours to read them all!

Second, I recently renovated my Pinterest, and made boards for photography of my individual dolls. So far I've got, Maggie, Phoebe, and Brooke's boards put together. Click on their names to check it out!

Thirdly, I was nominated for Best Photography in the Paisley Awards! I was so surprised when I saw I was in the top 5 for that category, and am so honored. Voting goes until January 27th, so check out the other nominees and decide which to vote for!

With the announcements done, I want to show you what I got while I was at the AG store. I saw ono the sale table that the Christmas pajamas for 2017 were only $10. They had been on my list since they came out, so I bought them!

Phoebe is here to model them.

I'm not really sure how the antlers fit with pajamas, but they're cute anyway :)

The slippers are adorable!

I might just have to start collecting the Christmas pajamas if they continue to be as cute as 2016 and 2017...
